8 January 2025.

Five years ago yesterday, I suffered a stroke.

I have little memory of the day, a walk along the river from Meadowbank to home after dropping my car in for a service.

Then waking up in a hospital bed with my family around me.

I realise that some stroke survivors, have no want to remember the day they had their stroke, which is fine by me.

Other survivors look upon the day: - as a day to celebrate life.

I am glad I survived my stroke, and I have moved forward from that day.

Writing words like this can be frustrating after being diagnose with aphasia.

I know what I want to say, then finding the right words can take time.

I am grateful for the support of my family and friends after my stroke.

Just before I finish, the best piece of advice I would give to someone who had a stroke, is this:

The only person who can make your recovery work is YOU.
