I met Letisha through a friend of mine Clive.

We all live in different states within Australia.

What we have in common is that we all stroke survivors.

Not long after meeting Letisha, she was still looking for stroke survivors to write a chapter about their stroke for her new book. She asked me whether I would like to join. I decided to join in. There were twenty-six survivors who wrote about their experiences before and after their stroke.

The book was ‘Finding Yourself After Stroke.’

The book was released a few years ago.

Recently, Finding Yourself After Stroke has earned a notable distinction as one of Flint Rehab Top 15 most empowering Stroke Recovery books of 2024.

Ok, so what does Flint Rehab do. Flint Rehab is an American Company that specialise in neuro rehab tools for stroke etc.

Letisha and I have got to know each other well.

After my stroke I never thought that I would write a chapter about my stroke. My aphasia for a while was more frustrating. My aphasia had left me sad to be around people, even people who I have known for over thirty years. After my hard work to regain my ability to talk to group of people, writing has become a possibility. I must thank my speech therapist for all their help with my recovery.

Letisha wanted the book to show our story about our stroke. There was twenty-six people who had a stroke or a brain injury. Some of them have had ischemic or haemorrhagic stroke. Some of them have aphasia, some of them have arms, hands, and legs that do not operate like they did before. Some of them have had multiple strokes. Others have lost their eyesight, lost their ability to earn an income, their ability to drive and probably more, especially their self-esteem.

It was interesting reading all the other stroke survivor experiences, many of them suffered mental health problems that seem too on forever. Sometimes it was difficult to read about their experiences. From time to time, I still want to read the book again. Sometimes I feel like other than my aphasia and my balance is stuffed to say the least, I have got through my stroke rather well compared to other in the book. Not to say that my stroke was easy.

When I read about Flint Rehab recognition about our book, I felt proud that was one of the twenty-six who had written about our experience of our stroke, I was saddened when I remember that one of our contributors has already passed away. I would like to thank Letisha for her want to have real people talk about their experiences in what is likely to be the worst day of their lives. I never wanted a financial return for my efforts, but being involved with a book that is having an impact on people who had a stroke or someone who is caring for a stroke survivor is far better than dollars.

For a while Letisha did a podcast with stroke survivors include me, which was fun or terrifying I am still sure which one it was.

Thank you, Letisha, for the chance to write about my stroke, and in some ways, this has led to my blogs.
